I don't really do much work in the outdoors. I'd like to, but it's rare that I can feel inspired to work on something, and then still feel the same way when I get there. I occasionally take art supplies with me when I travel, but most of the time, I'm shaving poundage, and am not up for carting supplies when I'd rather have food. That's why almost all my outdoor works end up being finished in the studio.
Whether I finish them in the studio or not, as long as I've done enough work to capture my feelings outdoors, I'll include it here.

Tidal Basin 8 x 10 in., Oil on Canvas This is rendering of the Washington Monument during the Cherry Blossom Festival which occurrs each April in Washington. I saw a multitude of people taking pictures from this spot, and decided when clear, to set up back off the walkway. I had to walk to the tidal basin many times to see beyond people who crowded the area, but got the main image hashed out while there. I made a few touch ups after hours at work and this is the finished product. It's notable that during an art show in Washington DC, this painting was stolen from the wall in the night. The General Services Administration (GSA) police and FBI were less than helpful. According to special agent Stu Pid, I should feel "proud" that someone thinks enough of the work to steal it. Hmmm... maybe it was him. |
